what a lovely day. i got threatened with being fired for something that wasn't my fault, and that was before 9am this morning! it looks like the ball got dropped somewhere in DC, but since they are my projects i'm ultimately responsible for the mistake. i found some confusing documentation in one of the the project files (as it was sent out to me from DC) that may absolve me somewhat, but the fact remains that i may still have to take the rap for it. i've been fighting the fires all day yesterday and today, and hopefully some of the fire has been put out. i think the easiest thing (for one of the projects) would be to call the grantee, admit the error, and correct it. it would be a bitch of a call to make, but it would be doable. the other one isn't as easy, and i think we may have to stand by the error. from a legal standpoint, though, it looks like we're going to honor the error in both cases.... an error to the tune of $63,000, which the foundation, especially now, does not have. lovely way to start the day, and to end yesterday.
my current band of obsession, mofro, is playing in san francisco tonight, but i can't get anyone to go with me :( i realize it's a weeknight, but it would be so worth it to go. my roommate won't stay up that late with me, but he does have to get up way early in the morning. i'm even getting tomorrow off! the executive director of the foundation is taking the terrorist warnings to heart concerning valentine's day, so he has instructed that we stay out of major cities tomorrow. works for me, but i can't exactly work from home so i basically get the day off. whee! that means a four-day weekend. vickie's birthday is in the middle of the weekend, though, so i can't make a last-minute getaway.... not that i have anywhere to go or anyone to go with, but still. i also have plans to go play with george and his wife on sunday, with recovery time on monday and plenty of time to come up with excuses for not working out. i must work out! my lovely 24-hour fitness membership is going to waste as my body continues to rot away.
the 49ers hired their new head coach a couple of days ago, oregon state's dennis erickson. i'm somewhat disappointed by the choice, as it seems like no one really wanted the position and this was just a last-ditch someone-take-the-damn-job hire. oh well. bill walsh and terry donahue wanted a puppet, and erickson will probably serve them well. also in sports news, it appears to be a well-publicized realization that this is steve lavin's last year at the helm of UCLA's men's basketball team. thank goodness. not sure who will replace him, but that program definitely needs a revitalizing change.
vu x le, where have you disappeared to?
more office rearrangement today. ezra decided to take my old cubby (which is a lovely space, actually) instead of continuing to share an office with corey. both corey and rebecca moved furniture today to further stake their claims on solo offices... i tried to relinquish a small table from rebecca's grasp to have some additional tabletop space in my office (i currently only have that of my desk, while rebecca has her own desk, a spare desk, a sideboard, and the small table), but to no avail. of the excess furniture in the office, there's not much that would fit in my room, but oh well. somehow i'm back to the bottom of the totem pole, as hard as i fight to find my way up. i rather enjoy being able to close my door to the world, though, it's nice to be able to shut people out when i want to.
