due to the impending hurricane isabel bearing down on the DC/virginia/north carolina area, our DC office has been shut down for the day. they have also shut down all the servers (to protect from surging), but that same server functions for all of the intranet stuff in all of the regional offices. that means that i do not have email or intranet access until they restart the server in DC. somehow that seems extremely disfunctional. i think there are some things that i can get done without access to the intranet, but not a whole lot... so i may be going home early today. darn.

my friend anu is going to the ucla-oklahoma game this weekend... in oklahoma. talk about a hardcore fan. he's going to be in dallas visiting family for a few days, and they're going to drive up to the sooner state for the day. (not that anyone would want to spend more time than that in oklahoma, but still...)

i think i need to start seriously considering getting myself into a masters' program at sfsu. there are a few professors in the conservation biology program that i might be interested in working with, including two who are curators of the herpetology department at the california academy of sciences and one that is a research scientist in the cal academy aquatic biology department. there are two other professors that seem interesting, a wetland/restoration ecologist and a marine ecologist/ichthyologist. there's no spring admission but marla says i should talk to people anyway and see what my options are. that means taking the gre... arrrrgghhh... no fun.
