i finally got to see winged migration this past weekend... went and saw it with my mom, who was equally fascinated by the views from ultra-lights and the extreme close-ups. i loved the shots of the supremely ugly (but cute just the same) snowy owl and sandhill crane chicks. it took me forever to go see it, but i'm glad i got to see it on the bigscreen. movies like that have to be appreciated in their full bigscreen glory... otherwise you don't get the feel of flying with the birds :) i need to go see some of the other indie movies that are out right now -- whale rider, thirteen, and others i've heard about. microcosmos and rivers & tides are playing at the red vic in sf this month, so i should go see those on bigscreen too.
kind of a lazy week at work this week. last week was a flurry of activity, what with the stress of finishing up the boardbook abstracts. this week i have no hard deadlines ahead of me, so i'm much more lax about what i'm getting done. this way, though, i'm actually making some progress into the piles i've accumulated on my desk in the past few weeks. the next big thing at this point is getting contracts out the door... and currently i have about 20-25 pending contracts that need to get done. wheeeeee!
first soccer game for zephyr on saturday! i'm excited but pretty nervous at the same time. we haven't had enough time to get people situated in their positions, or even having a full-sided scrimmage. it'll be interesting. i was charged with the task of setting the starting lineup, which was fun but i hope it works out. i'm not planning on having any spectators there to laugh at me for the first game. maybe in a few weeks... i'm also dreading the fact that i'm probably going to have to go the entire 90 minutes. in high school that was no sweat, but in my current condition i have a bad feeling that it's going to be nearer to hell... oh well. we'll see how it goes. practice today should be an interesting precursor. hopefully we'll get some things knocked into place today. we get our jerseys today, too :) i got my number, #19. yay!
doubleheader on sunday, too! US women's national team at 10am, sj earthquakes at 12:30pm. that may be an interesting day in the sun, since i'm supposed to go out clubbing in sf the night before. yikes! i'll be going to sleep early on sunday, i'm guessing.
sad days.... chris arellano's grandma died last thursday, and my friend tracey's mom died of cancer on sunday. mrs. weiss's funeral is tomorrow in san jose. i haven't decided yet if i'm going to go, but i might. marla is going, as are some other people that i used to work with at gsscc.
