rock on! meb keflezighi made the US olympic team for 10,000m and the marathon. i had a really random (and quite sweet) encounter with this former bruin. i was sitting in the archways in front of royce hall (the view of powell through one of the archways was taken by my lovely friend sal zapien), and i was writing in one of my many notebooks. i used to do that a lot more than i do now; now i mostly type and blog rather than blather on in notebooks full of poetry and prose. it was fairly late in the day so campus was pretty empty, and meb came up to me as i was sitting there. it might have been obtrusive had he not been so nice. he made some comment about catching some last sunlight to write by, and we talked a bit about writing stuff. (yes, i'm a dork.) it was really kind of random, but he stood and talked to me for probably 20 minutes or so before he introduced himself. of course, meb was making headlines while in college too, so i already knew who he was. :) anyway, i've sort of followed his progress since then, and i'm really proud of him for making the olympics. go meb!
