the 49ers (bearers of a sad 0-3 season start and their first shutout since 1977) will now call their home monster park. what ever happened to "monster field at candlestick park" so we can all still call it the 'stick and be happy? i'll probably always call it the 'stick, as i never called it 3com. silly tech companies, thinking they can take over the world ;)

as of today, a total of three people have noticed that i cut my hair. now, i'm not looking for compliments or anything (i don't really care), but it's strange that no one really has noticed. i mean, i cut off a good six inches-- are people really that unobservant, or do they really just not bother to notice or mention it? i guess it's a bigger deal to me, since it's only about a once-a-year occurrence for me, but still. yes, it's just hair, i realize. moving on...

i can't believe it's almost october. where has this year gone? it's already starting to breeze into fall in the city... the days have been mostly fogged over and i've started wearing fleeces again. we usually get a few days of indian summer in the beginning/middle of october, but then it's off to winter we go. i've never been much of a winter sports person (one day i'll learn how to snowboard, i swear), so winter is sometimes a drag, but i love fall... i also need to get out to the east coast someday for a real, colorful autumn. i wish we had more of that here. but then, i won't complain about the mild winters we get. :) with october also comes the end of soccer season :( hopefully the quakes will stay in town so the next game isn't my last...

went to see rent and my rival sun this weekend-- both good shows (in very different ways). MRS played in los gatos's town plaza, on a redwood-shaded platform in front of a crowd that lounged on beach towels or pulled up a piece of lawn. the applause was enthusiastic but muted given the mellow atmosphere. MRS played four new songs (two of which i especially liked), an acoustic version of one of their songs, and a green day cover that really suits them... in a long set! yay MRS! :) a bunch of the group came out to see them, too, although we all ended up having to leave early except judy (the ever-faithful MRS roadie :)). rent was awesome... i'd seen it before and knew i liked it, but i wasn't sure if the 'rents would enjoy it. i like the social commentary and the in-your-face attitude it presents, and how it focuses on love, community, and creativity as the sources of happiness above all travails. it just goes to show that we need to live our lives without regret. i'm glad i got to see it again. (yes, i'm a geek for musicals. sad, i know.)

"there's only us
there's only this
forget regret, or life is yours to miss
no other road
no other way
no day but today...."
