jessica and george got married this weekend! it's been a while since i'd been to a wedding, and i've only been to a few that were my friends (as opposed to family, family friends, etc.). it was a really lovely wedding (short, even though it was catholic) in a beautiful stone church off of mission in the city. george slipped a bit on the vows, causing everyone to chuckle, but they seemed to be having a good time. jessica looked lovely... her train was so long! it looked really cool when they were taking pictures on the church steps, though, with all her ladies-in-waiting in red beside her. the reception was at the italian-american social club (which, by the way, must be a clone for every culture's designated hall for these types of events-- it was a very similar set-up to the hungarians' stefaneum), and it was very nicely done too. there were about 160-170 people there, but it didn't seem like it. the family got pretty rowdy, but enjoyed the tasty food, semi-open bar, wild 94.9 dj, dancing, and fun. i wasn't wearing very good dancing shoes (as i realized too late) but it was still fun. i'm very happy for both of them. :) since jess didn't get a bachelorette party, pauline and i are going to plan a post-wedding bash for her (well, maybe both of them). yay!

it amazes me sometimes to recognize true strength in people. i feel like i'm a pretty strong, independent woman who makes decent choices, stands up for herself, and recognizes the value of making her own mistakes and learning from them. the truth is, though, i've never really been tested. i've had a good life, with strong support systems and people who will care about me regardless of circumstance. i've had some trials, but i've never really had to show my mettle and bear through tough situations. i guess that's why it inspires awe in me when i see that strength shine through in others. more often than not, those who have that strength are reluctant to speak of it. they did what they did because they had to deal with adversity, but it makes them rare. in general, people are lazy and complacent with their lives. they take what life gives them because they feel it's their lot. but sometimes people strive to make something of themselves, overcome the obstacles, and become better (and stronger, as the case may be). they do it for themselves, not because they owe it to anyone, but because they see better things for themselves in their lives.

i wish i had that kind of strength.

sports update in the world of csilla:
earthquakes tie 1-1 with colorado (season record 9-10-9, two games left)
a's beat the angels 3-2, but to no avail as they lose the division and the wildcard race
niners lose to the rams 14-24 (season record 0-4. ugh. it's going to be a long season.)
zephyr beats bo and the deelites 11-0 (season record 3-0, baby!)
ucla football beats san diego state 33-10 (season record 3-1)
sharks played... oh wait, never mind. there is no hockey season so far.
