life on MUNI.

the good (and/or funny):
-- the mod-squad 20-something with her squishy-faced, owl-eye glasses-wearing grandmother, holding hands and giggling like teenagers together. it's very cute to see grandparents and grandkids have that close of a relationship.
-- the little old lady who rides the train alone every day, waving and grinning widely at the red-headed baby in the stroller across the aisle from her.
-- the red-headed baby smiling back.
-- the couples headed to work together in the morning, trying to have a sweet have-a-good-day-i'll-miss-you conversation while other people are standing precisely two and a half inches away from them.
-- two stops past the stop i get on, when the train empties out because the kids all get off at the school.
-- randomly running into people you know. (anna? vu? tony?)
-- being able to get anywhere in the city (with the possible exception of parts of the presidio) by public transport.
-- the chatty train driver the other morning. "i don't know if you know it, but MUNI love [sic] you! have a great day!"
-- the slightly-gay-looking-but-not-really businessman blasting judy collins from his headphones. hee!

the bad:
-- the jostling, of course. but then, it's actually fun to watch people get really riled up about getting bumped by someone else's elbow or purse. seriously, folks, it's rush hour-- what do you expect?
-- the clipping of nails. what is up with that? do your makeup on the train if you must, but i do not want to be sitting next to you when your nail clippings ricochet out of your clippers and into my eyeball. for some reason, that just skeeves me out. do that in the privacy of your own bathroom, wouldja?
-- shoving to get on the train. inevitably it is older (but not old) asian women who do this, and it's beyond the point of being rude. (sorry, i'm not trying to be insensitive, this is really who does it.)there have been several occasions where i'm standing first or second in line to get on the train, and some lady swoops in at the last second and shoves her way past me (yes, shoves) so she gets a better seat on the train. it has even happened when there are plenty of empty seats. do they think that the driver is going to close the doors on them? hello, social courtesy? have you two met?
-- when the train gets stuck. this seems to happen a lot, and increases in duration when i have to get to an early-morning meeting. murphy's law, i suppose. i'm glad for public transportation, but sheesh.
