today marks the end of a legendary career... not a big surprise to anyone, i'm certain, but noteworthy nonetheless. in other sports news, most of my teams won this weekend! usa vs mexico 2-0, earthquakes vs dallas 2-0, and ucla vs sdsu 44-21. the a's were the only casualty, as they dropped two out of three of the series vs the yankees. sad, since they're chasing the AL west title (and the wild card bid), and plus it's the hated yankees! grr!

in case anyone is following heather's travels, she has now been in houston, TX; covington, LA; mobile, AL; and biloxi, MS. she is supposedly headed back to covington tonight and then will likely be sent to kenner, LA tomorrow. my brother and SEIU are getting into relief efforts as well, providing phone banks in houston so the stranded folks can contact their families. it's kind of heartening to see the positive ways people band together following catastrophe (even in same breath as the violence, looting, and loss). there are many more ways to get involved now... many organizations are donating proceeds of events to the red cross, so there are more reasons to get out to those events.
