Dear Respected San Jose and Santa Clara Officials,
I am writing today to beseech you to do everything in your power to keep the two-time champion San Jose Earthquakes in San Jose, where they belong. As I'm certain you are well aware, we are coming very close to losing our beloved soccer team because they have long been the unwanted and unattended property of Anschutz Entertainment Group. While the Earthquakes have continued to prosper under intense adversity, AEG continues to disrespect and mistreat an organization that would thrive if given the support it needs.
The San Jose Earthquakes boast homegrown talent-- they have survived because of the Coach-of-the-Year coaching quality of Dominic Kinnear and John Doyle, the grassroots support of organizations like Soccer Silicon Valley and Club Quake, and the hometown appeal of longtime players like Troy Dayak. San Jose is a city ripe for soccer entertainment-- it has boasted youth programs of the highest caliber in the country for over a decade. It has a rich multicultural audience that can be increasingly captivated by soccer on a local stage. It has diehards like me, who have been season ticketholders for 10 years, soccer players for 25 years, and avid followers for life.
All the team needs now is a city and an owner who will support and nurture it.
San Jose and Santa Clara have been reaching out in recent years to attract teams like the A's, the Stealth, and the Sabercats, but have not recognized the incredible talent and entertainment value that already reside within the city limits. Members of both San Jose and Santa Clara City Councils have also recognized the San Jose Earthquakes for their contributions to the community-- yet there is still little support in keeping the team here.
I grew up in San Jose and continue to be an active member of the community, and I frequent many of events and businesses in the downtown area. I would like to continue to enjoy this as part of my soccer experience. Please keep the dream alive! Help put into place the ability to build the rightful home for the San Jose Earthquakes. The Earthquakes need a stadium... and we as fans need your help, now more than ever.
[you, too, can write to these folks... i certainly hope they listen. here's some contact information to get you started...]
