saw brokeback mountain last night. i'd been wanting to see it for a while, because it sounded incredible... plus i like annie proulx (and heath ledger), and i've heard that this adaptation was much better than her last to be put to the silver screen (the shipping news). man... what a heartbreak. i haven't been so emotionally affected by a movie in a damn long time. all of the reviews can't even begin to give it recognition for the palpable despair and loneliness that comes across the screen, rescued only by fleeting returns to an isolated wilderness. it's a sobering reality of undefined love that society would not recognize and which ultimately caused the utter destruction of two misunderstood souls.
...it makes me grateful for the love i have in my life, however difficult it may seem at times.
also this weekend, kat, sete, and i started our half-marathon training. i've been contemplating it recently, and even went to a team in training meeting to find out more information. i'm not sure TNT works for me (schedule-wise, as long runs are the same day as soccer game days, and donation-wise, as there is a $2,200 minimum to participate beyond the beginning of march!) but i want to try to train on my own anyway. so, the three of us went out to the stevens creek trail and did a four-mile jog yesterday! we went pretty slowly, but we all were able to complete it and we're planning to do it again (perhaps faster) next week. i did better than expected-- i could have continued a while longer, or gone at a faster pace, and would have been fine. my knees are grumbling this morning, of course, but that's a way of life for me.
spent the rest of the weekend playing catch-up on my sleep... i spent the better part of last week sick (but not in bed-- had too much to do at work, unfortunately!) so saturday was dedicated to getting better. i think it worked! :)
