my team pulled the upset of the year on saturday! the ucla defense stood up the usc trojans for a win at home-- the first ucla win in the series since the middle of my own college career. (it's been a while.) the sweet victory (especially in rivalry games) is always sweeter when your team has a hand in removing your crosstown foe from championship contention. what a year to cause the fall of troy! they still go to the rose bowl, but that is not the consolation prize they wanted this year. go bruins!
... i'm not sure how i feel about michigan getting dropped from the bcs championship, though. i think they're clearly the no. 2 team in the country, and those voters who just didn't want to see an ohio state-michigan rematch have their priorities in the wrong place. i don't think florida has a snowball's chance against ohio state... which probably makes my friend chad very happy, since his school is about to become national champions again.
speaking of national championships, no. 100 seems to be quite elusive for ucla. the ucla men's soccer team played in the national championship game on sunday, and sadly lost to ucsb. ucla women's top-ranked soccer team lost too, to perennial champ north carolina, in the semifinals. ah, well, there's always basketball.
