for once in what seems like a long time, i actually had a pretty laidback weekend. i was supposed to hang out with liz and marla during the day on saturday, but we got our wires crossed so i didn't meet up with them until later at night. that left me with most of the day to clean, run errands, lounge, and generally laze around and spend the day at a leisurely pace. i got quite a bit done, which was nice. caught dinner with L&M and then went to see chicago at the pruneyard. i'm a big fan of musicals and loved the stage production of chicago, so i was kind of afraid of what the movie production would change. however, the movie adaptation sticks very closely to the stage production, and i really did enjoy it as much as i enjoyed the stage version. it's very musical-y, so if you're not into that you wouldn't enjoy it. however, if you *are,* you'll like it. :)
we got into a huge reminiscent movie discussion at lunchtime today. many old-school flicks came up, like neverending story, caddyshack, gremlins, and tons of others. it's interesting to see what people's movie-going tastes are, and what they remember as being "classics" from their childhood. some of the "classics" i've never even seen, which surprises me. it's almost like if you don't see them at that time and don't have some memorable period during which you would have seen those movies, you never get around to seeing them. not that they're necessarily great-quality movies, but they're movies that "everyone has seen." i've been known to exclaim, "you've never seen that?!" to movies like the princess bride or the star wars trilogy, for example. but hey, everyone has different silver screen palates. (you know who you are, high strung boy. :))
my movie collection, much like my cd collection, is extremely bare-bones. i'm starting a list of movies i need to buy when and if i finally get around to ponying up the money for them. more to be added, i'm certain, when i think of others i really like and would watch repeatedly.
movies i need to buy:
moulin rouge
amélie
chicago (when it comes out)
willow
monty python: search for the holy grail
dead poets' society
the bourne identity
