man, what a rough week this has been, and it's only wednesday! adding to the list, i had a whole long entry already typed up, and i accidentally closed the window without saving it. doh! i may stay home tomorrow to read proposals and stay in my 'jammies and have a bit of a down day to get away from it for a bit.
why such sour grapes? well, let's see...
1. heather got the promotion. heather, my coworker who i trained, is now going to be my boss. not that i don't think she'll do a great job, because she will, but i feel like i was passed over for a promotion i should have gotten. i've been here longer, i do every bit as good a job as she does, and i've had training/management experience that she hasn't had within the foundation. she may have interviewed better, but who knows. to make matters worse, i tried to talk to the HR director to get a little more insight on why they didn't feel i was qualified, and she gave me the run-around with very cagey non-answers. it doesn't make any sense that she would have been giving me doublespeak, since they were obviously looking for certain characteristics that they didn't feel i had. in order for me to be more prepared to face promotion issues again, it would be nice to know what i need to work on. fortunately, i also decided to speak to beth, who is heather's new boss, and she was able to give me more concrete (and reasonable) reasons that didn't make me feel like i was totally worthless. it remains to be seen how this plays out, since heather will be passing off half of her grant load in order to take on supervisory responsibilities. right now, i'm the only person that she is "supervising," so who is going to get that extra grant load? me? HELL no. i already have a hard enough time getting through my own project load, plus the new stuff that we're being inundated with all the time, plus the projects from the denver office that are being passed over to me. errrrrk.
2. my nagymama is in the hospital. she's been having difficulties with pockets in her esophagus for a while, but now it's taken a bit of a turn for the worse. she has pneumonia in one lung, and the doctors discovered food in her lungs. that may be the result of a perforation, which would be bad (and would require surgery)... but they're acting conservatively at the moment and trying to clean it out as though it's not a perforation. hopefully that will work, since it's essentially open-chest surgery-- not the most ideal action to be taken on an ailing 87-year-old-woman.
3. i got a parking ticket yesterday... in my own parking lot! in my apartment complex, there is a narrow parking area around the outside of the buildings... there are designated parking spots, and then people park along the sides of the alley all the time. it's technically a fire lane, but i spoke to a cop about it once and he said that it's not a problem to park there, as long as it's temporary and not overnight. so i was parked there (as i do somewhat often when i'm only parking there for a little while) in between work and class last night, and i got a parking ticket!
4. i'm starting to get sick. meh.
5. i'm sure there are other things i could complain out (like having to move out of my beloved apartment this weekend! *sigh*) but i'll save you the anguish and bleeding ears.
and now back to your regularly scheduled programming...
i got a free cd from alice radio yesterday. they have this frequent listener program where you get points every day when you listen at certain times, and you can redeem those points for prizes. so i decided to redeem some of my points for the chicago soundtrack, and it came in the mail yesterday. yay!
i'm going to see rocket from the crypt at the great american music hall tonight with bryan and meghan. i don't know if i'm that into RFTC, but it should be fun anyway. i haven't seen b&m in a while either, so it'll be nice to see them. i've been busy lately so i haven't been able to make it out to modesto as often as i'd like.
my landlady is so scatterbrained! there's a door through the garage into my apartment which allows for easier access for moving in big stuff... however, it's currently blocked with my landlady's junk! she emailed me to tell me that she was leaving me the keys to her car so i could move it out of the way, but that i'd have to move all the junk myself (junk, mind you, that includes BIG junk like a toilet, boxes, etc). fun. sheesh. she's going to be gone in europe until april 21, too, so hopefully things will be fine until then. i need to do a walk-through and take notes on what's wrong with the place this weekend. i also still need to find a dresser and/or storage bins of some sort. i'll deal with that later though, i think.
okay, that's enough for today.
