woo hoo! zephyr's first win of the season, 2-0, on saturday! makes up for the horrid losses by the bruins (24-59 to no. 1 oklahoma) and the 49ers (12-13 to the browns, giving up a touchdown in the last 30 seconds!). many thanks to vickie for stepping in to play, and to marcela who saved my ass multiple times because i couldn't drag the energy out of my body. i think my body is falling apart, by the way... my knees, ankles, shins, and left big toe are a wreck! argh! i just need to get back in shape so badly. after that i will be better able to control my musculature. *sigh*
in other sports news, landon donovan scored the earthquakes' first-ever hat trick in a 4-1 rout of the kansas city wizards. i must say, it's very nice to see him on his game for once. donovan, the MLS poster boy, has not been earning his paychecks this season until this past saturday. if he can carry this same playing ability through november, we'll have another championship in san jose. also nice to see troy dayak back on the field, a beast who didn't even look like he was coming off of major injury. that guy is so solid.
sunday, my cousins ken and carol and i went to see the a's beat the mariners at oakland coliseum. we had excellent seats, 8th row on the third base line. however, it was sweltering out there and there was no reprieve from the sun... carol ended up watching most of the game from under the overhang, while ken and i had our healthy shares of liquid refreshment to keep us hydrated. i can't imagine drinking beer at a game like that-- dehydration and diuretics do not a good combination make. marla and liz came to the game too, and sat with us from the 5th inning on. the a's won 12-0, including a grand slam by mark ellis in the 5th. yay!
also of note, i saw matchstick men saturday night with l&m. it was decently okay, but it seemed like a long, slow-paced movie. i was also pretty tired so that may have counteracted the good things of the movie, but it's one i probably could have waited to see on video. there were a few movies in the previews that i want to see, though-- love actually with hugh grant, liam neeson, emma thompson, and mr. bean (yes, a chick flick, but it looks really cute and funny), and master and commander with russell crowe and paul bettany (probably an oscar-contender period piece). there are a ton and a half movies that i haven't seen yet, so i guess i'll need to start compiling a list.
