busy busyness. and holy macaroni, blogger changed its template AGAIN. meh. anyway, things are busy here at work... i have a bunch of preproposals to read and review before tomorrow, and much stuff to get done before i leave for vacation in HAWAII next week!! :) yes, i'm excited. i need a vacation like a fat kid needs cake, man. i'm really looking forward to just being able to relax, have a few mai tais on the beach, read a book in the sun, eat good (pacific) salmon, and have fun with my best friends. yay! kat's friend lia lives in honolulu, too, so she's probably going to show us the fun local spots. it's also late in the season, so it hopefully won't be too touristy.
went to see michael moore speak last night at sfsu. he's a pretty hilarious guy. it kind of broke down at the end, because he went on about half an hour too long and things were getting restless, but he's still interesting to listen to. he called gavin newsom (sf mayoral candidate) in front of the crowd, tried to call the president of sfsu, things like that. he also went into a number of anecdotes about his crazy antics, some of which i can hardly believe someone would think to do. that's probably why he gets away with it, because people don't expect someone to do the kinds of things he does. and he does them just to get the reaction, not to be negative or hateful in anyway. he does them to make a point. that's what makes him so interesting. it also looks like he's pretty supportive of wesley clark, even though he distinctly said he wasn't going to endorse anyone yet. however, judging by how he went on about the general, he's got some pretty strong opinions already. i was going to stay and see if i could buy a book for him to sign, but it was already almost 10pm by that time (and csi miami was on! heh).
also saw kill bill this weekend with pabs. it's VERY quentin tarantino. an interesting watch, and kind of funny in a pretty sick way, but not exactly my kind of movie. just the same, at some point i'll probably see volume 2. and yes, it's gory, but in a cheesy haunted house kind of way. don't worry, it won't give you nightmares. there's also lots of cool crouching-tiger-style samurai swordfighting. never really thought of uma thurman as an action hero(ine), but she does a pretty good job. she's lithe enough to pull it off.
i do have to ask, though-- why is it that people think being drunk gives them the license to say whatever they want, without having to take responsibility for what they say? ugh. that pisses me off. it's such a chickenshit cop-out, if you can't own up to what you say or feel when you're sober.
