The story of a nation divided continues, and much to my chagrin it did not turn out as I had hoped. I am in absolute disbelief today that this country is home to so many idiots who do not recognize the horrible state of affairs destined to rule us for the next four years. Because people feel like they can sit and have a beer with Shrub, they feel like he’s the best candidate to run a country as large and diverse as ours? Do people not see the degradation of the economic state, the educational system, the environment, and people’s rights as each day ensues? Do people not realize that Shrub will have the right to install up to three new members of the Supreme Court, and presumably he will try to install right-swinging judges? Can you imagine what would happen if the Supreme Court decided to overturn Roe v. Wade, or decided to establish a constitutional ban on gay unions? What ever happened to civil rights in this country of supposed freedoms? What happened to the American way, the right to the pursuit of happiness?
“Democrats peddle issues and Republicans sell values. Consider the four G’s: God, guns, gays, and grizzlies.” –NYT, Nicholas D. Kristof
I am so utterly sad today. I am sad that half of the people in this great country blind themselves to the horrors of war, to the decimation of our natural resources, to the horrifically under-funded education program that fueled bush’s campaign, to the continued tax benefits for the wealthy, to the increasing export of American jobs, to the conniving ways of Dick Cheney and Karl Rove… The United States of America has defeated itself today. America is already the laughingstock of the world, and we continue to prove our idiocy by re-electing a man who has done nothing but torn our country, its reputation, and its values apart.
Thank goodness for Barbara Boxer, and the defeat of the casino propositions, otherwise I would have nothing political to be satisfied about today. But sadly, again, Californians decided it was not in their best interest to require all large and medium-sized companies to provide health care to their employees. I’m sorry, what?! Sure, no problem, we’ll continue to undermine the needs of factory workers and office minions that are just out there trying to make a living. And hello, South Dakotans—I’m sure in your minds it makes some sense to oust the specific power of the minority leader from YOUR STATE. Yes, that makes sense. Good thinking, folks.
What is wrong with the world today? The result of this election leaves me feeling hopeless, utterly disappointed, and extremely concerned. The worst part is, there’s nothing I can do about it…
