another monday! despite UCLA's early exit from march madness, the weekend was a good one. it started off with some yummy burgers from fuddruckers and a rockin' goldenstate show at tongue and groove in sf. judy did her due diligence and made sure the boys had a big following out that night, which was awesome! lots of people showed up for the show, and they put on a good one, complete with dancing poodle (no really, she dances). robbie almost took a nosedive into the drumset but recovered nicely before meeting lenny facefirst. they played "episodes," which is my favorite song, plus most of their new songs (including "the amazing shrinking man," which i really like, and judy's favorite, "anna"). h and i left after the boys were done with their set, as i had to be up early for interviews, but it sounds like the rest of the crew put in a good hard night!
saturday morning, as i mentioned, was the day of my UCLA scholarship interviews. they went very smoothly, actually-- our top two kids were pretty evident to all of the committee, and we were in easy agreeance. (i realize this does not seem extraordinary, but there often are differences of opinion here.) many thanks to paul, beth, janom, marla, and sally, who were of inexpressible help. marla was my superstar greeter, even though she has no ties that bind to UCLA. she impressed the whole committee with the information she got from the kids-- but then, that's why i asked her to help, because i knew she'd be great at it.
bowling saturday night with heather, heather's coworker bonnie, and bonnie's friend alyson. a mediocre bowling day, but i won the first game at least (guess everyone else was more mediocre than me! heh). it was supposed to be a beer-swillin' night out, but none of us drank much. are we getting old??
sunday dawned lovely and rainy, but marla, liz, and i ventured out to castle rock for a nice 5-mile hike. it was a pretty easy grade but had lots of lovely vistas... plus we found a bunch of places we need to come to with our climbing gear (when the weather is drier). i sadly am still quite out of shape, but enjoyed being able to get outside. i need more of that. we stopped by savannah-chanelle for some wine- and mustard-tasting (mmm, champagne and honey mustard!) on the way back, then headed home for a home-cooked meal and some downtime with the simpsons.
it's nice to start settling into my life.
